Monument to the Victims of the 1906 Attack
Su questa tappa
The Monument to the Victims of the 1906 Attack (Spanish: "Monumento a las víctimas del atentado contra Alfonso XIII y Victoria Eugenia") commemorates the 23 people killed on 31 May 1906, when the anarchist Mateu Morral threw a bomb hidden in a bouquet of flowers at the royal wedding procession of Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg from Calle Mayor 88. The current memorial — a bronze angel by Federico Coullaut-Valera holding a parchment reading "Madrid 1906 1963" — was completed in 1963 on the site of an earlier 1908 monument that was demolished during the Civil War.
